The global cruise ship construction market remains active, with a steady growth in the number of orders on hand. By the end of 2036, 75 new cruise ships are expected to be delivered, with a total investment of approximately USD 60 billion. The cruise industry is capable of generating substantial economic benefits, which has become a shared confidence and consensus worldwide. In recent years, various national ministries and commissions in China have successively issued documents to support the independent design, construction, and development of the supporting industrial chain for cruise ships. China's cruise shipbuilding industry has now become an important participant and driver in the global cruise market. China's first domestically built large cruise ship, the "Adora Magic City," officially commenced its commercial maiden voyage on January 1, 2024. The second domestically built large cruise ship, the "Adora Flora City," has been officially launched and is scheduled for delivery before the end of 2026. China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and China Tourism Group (CTG) have formally signed a cooperation memorandum for a "2+1" large cruise ship newbuilding project, with plans to deliver the first independently designed and built domestic large cruise ship by the end of 2030. Simultaneously, China Merchants Industry secured orders for up to 12 cruise ships from two overseas shipowners at the end of 2025. This includes a construction contract for 1+3 sailing cruise ships with Mystic Cruises and a framework agreement for 8 hybrid-powered cruise ships with Swiss company United Waterways. China's cruise industry has established a comprehensive ecosystem covering cruise operations, design and construction, and the supporting supply chain. Looking ahead to 2035, the total scale of China's cruise economy is projected to reach RMB 500 billion, indicating that this field will become a burgeoning, high-potential, and vast market, providing new growth points and a powerful driving force for sustained and healthy economic development.
Hosted by The Chinese Society of Naval Architect and Shanghai Services Federation, supported by Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy & Informatization, Shanghai Hongkou District People's Government and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.etc., organized by Cruise & Yacht Committee of The Chinese Society of Naval Architect and Marine Engineers, Shipping and Cruise Economic Services Committee of Shanghai Services Federation and Tiger Cruise Management (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., co-organized by China Cruise Ship Design Alliance, the 8th China International Cruise Ship-building Forum & Exhibition will be held in Shanghai from September 29 to 30, 2026. Themed "Accelerate independent design and construction of cruise ships and development of supporting systems, to unleash new momentum for high-quality development of cruise industry ", the event will be co-located with Cruise (Passenger Ships) China-Made Supporting Products Achievement Exhibition
This event will bring together industry associations, shipbuilders and repairers, cruise lines and shipowners, cruise ship design and interiors, cruise ship supporting suppliers, classification societies, institutes, cruise & ship industrial parks, cruise ship supply and other related enterprises etc., to build an exchange and cooperation platform for the cruise (passenger) shipbuilding industry, and to promote the development of the cruise (passenger) shipbuilding industry in China, Asia and even the world.
China International Cruise Shipbuilding Forum & Exhibition has been successfully held for seven sessions. It is the only professional cruise (passenger) shipbuilding exhibition in Asia. It is the best way to understand the latest products and technologies of global cruise shipbuilding and to build a face-to-face, a multi-directional and multi-level exchange and cooperation platform for industry players. It has practical significance for the transformation of China's shipbuilding industry to high-end development.
